1. Potatoes

Potatoes do not belong in your fridge. Storage guidelines on potatoes dictate that they need to be stored in a cool, dry, dark place. Your fridge may be dark, but it’s cold, not cool, and moist, not dry. The cold temperature setting on your refrigerator has a negative effect on potatoes.

Potatoes are rich in starch. Cold temperatures convert the starch into sugar at a rapid pace. Sugary starches can raise your blood sugar levels which have several health implications.

2. Onions

Whether your onions belong in the fridge or not depends on how you buy them. Unpeeled onions need fresh air and room temperatures to extend their shelf-life. Don’t even seal them inside a plastic bag, let alone a fridge.

Refrigerating unpeeled onions causes them to soften and grow mold. You’ll wind up throwing them out before you can use them.  Peeled onions are a different matter, though. They need to be refrigerated inside an airtight container.
