8. Her Breakout Novel Tackled Difficult Subjects
Flowers in the Attic started life as an adult novel but was quickly embraced by teens. However, its themes were decidedly not kid-friendly. Murder, incest, and rape were just some of the things the Dollanganger kids experienced, and readers ate it all up.
Those themes echoed throughout the seven books Andrews wrote before dying in 1986; however, none were as impactful as Flowers in the Attic.
